The 500-year-old lava tube also called Nahuku is located in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park on The Big Island and was first recognized by newspaper publisher Lorrin Thurston in 1913. The large 600-foot long cave formed by solidifying lava is partially lighted by electricity and has colorful forms on its walls and ceiling. The second portion of the lava cave is unlit so those who choose to go through it will need a flashlight. the popular tourist attraction Thurston Lava Tube is surrounded by the flora and fauna of the tropical rainforest.
