Built for the 1878 World's Fair on the summit of Chaillot hill, the Trocadero is a public square housing Art Deco-style buildings, an underground aquarium, gardens and an array of fountains. The name Trocadero commemorates the victory of French King Louis XVIII against Spain in 1823. Featuring the largest architecture center in the world, a national theater and museums on French history, it is an important site of French culture. The esplanade offers a panoramic view of the iconic Eiffel Tower, located just across the River Seine. The views are magnificent, so visitors should be sure to bring their cameras.
